more news...

I would like to add the irony that last week I signed up to have these messages sent to my phone via text and I did not get ONE text today but the girl that Dennis and I hung out with got a bunch (and usually an hour after we knew...)

Dear Malibu residential students,

Although Malibu classes are cancelled on Monday, October 22, I want to make you aware of the student services open on campus tomorrow. These include: Waves Cafe, HAWC, Payson Library, OneStop, Housing and Community Living, Health Center, Counseling Center, Career Center, Volunteer Center, and Student Activities. Also, the Student Programming Board will show the movie, “Transformers” at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. in Elkins on Monday.

I know you share my appreciation for the firefighters and others who have protected and served our campus today. Tonight, we have 500 firefighters staying on campus at the Firestone Fieldhouse, and the LA County Fire Department has established their command post at Drescher. We are blessed to be surrounded by caring professionals. Thank you for your cooperation, patience, and graciousness. Times like these bring out the true character of our Pepperdine family.

Sincerely,

Mark Davis
Dean of Student Affairs

We left LA on Saturday night around 6:00 and didn't think we'd make it past Castaic because the wind was blowing TREES around the freeway.

When we woke up Sunday morning in Sacramento, all the news was about Malibu and Pepperdine, and I was REALLY hoping you guys were alright! I'm glad that you are!

The pictures you took remind me of the pictures I took in 2005 when the Simi Valley Fire was a half mile from my house.
