the last 24 hours illustrated...

Thoughts and happenings from today....
Last night, it came to my attention that Diet Coke Zero is black. The can (we usually buy bottles so I've never paid attention) is black! It just impressed me and I thought "wow. way to make diet coke kind of sexy and fashionable...." (i'm such a dork...)
Dennis is allergic to whatever they put in bengay. He had to go to the ER about 6 months or so ago because I put bengay on his back and he ended up with a huge rash. Poor guy....

He put one of those icy/hot patches on his back on Friday and it created a similar rash. We put aloe vera on it and he took benadryl but it got worse. So today after he finished studying, he decided that he should go to the ER again. I almost brought my camera (I had to bring the laptop because I have a paper due tomorrow) and I'm wishing I had brought it. We watched the entire Oscars Ceremony in the ER waiting room. I honestly was not even planning on watching that show this year. I haven't really watched it in like 4 years. "The Departed" was a deserving movie (gritty but really good and memorable) but they kind of left "El Labrinito del Fauno" and the nominations for "Notes on a Scandal" out (I also favored the actors from "Blood Diamond" but hell, they all deserved it- Will Smith in "The Pursuit of Happyness"- incredible!) So, everyone who one deserved it. And it's over, we move on. I kind of wish that they didn't follow this with a Barbara Walters special because I don't really like her but by the time Barbara was interviewing Helen Mirren, we were back being seen by a doctor.(yes and bytheway, my award for best dressed goes to Penelope Cruz....)

Dennis has some kind of allergic reaction with a long name that I don't even remember. They gave him a shot of some kind of steroid that works as anti-inflammatory, and we were only back there for an hour. Which is good because being in the ER sucks. We saw a lot of little kids (one little boy had a broken arm and kept whimpering and it just about broke my heart) and stressed parents (one mom in the waiting room got so impatient with her toddler that she picked the toddler up by the arm- grabbed her little arm and lifted her body up off the ground like you would do with a rag doll). The ER sucks.

I told Dennis "this is soooo going in my blog" when he basically started flipping out about the injection- he has a phobia of needles and was whimpering just like the little boy with the broken arm. The nurse said "the bigger they are the harder they fall" and I believe her (it's fascinating how men can be so tough and then become total babies when they are not feeling good!) She gave him a pair of really big hospital scrubs because his jeans were not helping the rash on his back, and I became "DON'T SCRATCH NAZI WOMAN". So he's been scratching his back and I've been saying what few words I know of German in a loud dictator voice (e.g. "Sig Heil!! Aufwiedersein!!" "Sitz em Leben!!!") It doesn't matter what those words mean, as long as my tone reminds him to stop scratching.

And to clarify, the photo above is of him in his super sized scrubs, getting into bed and whimpering like a little puppy. Five minutes after this photo was taken he said something like "No one loves me. I'm sick..." and I swear, my hand to God, that I said (without thinking) "Oh my God, stop acting like Anna Nicole Smith!"

So, I haven't finished my paper but I've had an interesting day with interesting memories....

LOL Both you and Dennis are so cute!!! I can almost imagine you stopping Dennis from scratching the rash. Haha!

Oh, I didn't watch the Oscar's too, but my friend called me up and told me "The Departed won an award!!" >.<

Hey! That lamp behind Dennis, it look s like the one I had in my room too! I got mine from Ikea tho. Haha! It's kinda exciting seeing something familiar in another person's photo. ;)

I know I'm behind in replying - but I had to.

Dennis actually sort of sounds like my dad. I hear him say, "I'm just an old man - don't worry about me." or "It's ok, I'm just a sick old man and nobody loves me. I'll take care of myself."

I thought Reese Witherspoon was best dressed...I hate Beyonce so I was glad her outfit stunk...and Cameron Diaz looked like a big fish.
